IPMG Code of Ethics

The International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group (IPMG) is an association representing 25 research-based multinational pharmaceutical companies operating in Indonesia. IPMG maintains a Code of Practice governing interactions with healthcare professionals and the promotion of pharmaceutical products, enforcing strict practices and conducting compliance assessments.

"All IPMG members must comply with the relevant laws, regulations, and/or the Code of Practice," stated IPMG Chairman Jorge Wagner.

To foster a level playing field within the Indonesian pharmaceutical industry and ensure a uniform interpretation of the Code, the Marketing Practices Sub-Committee—following careful deliberation—revised several articles and points within the IPMG Code of Practice. The revised Code of Practice on the Promotion of Pharmaceutical Products in Indonesia, originally issued on May 1, 2017, came into effect on January 1, 2019.

Nevertheless, IPMG continues to acknowledge the role of relevant codes of practice established by other healthcare associations. IPMG is also committed to complying with applicable laws and regulations regarding healthcare services in Indonesia.

These revisions are essential to ensure alignment with the Ministry of Finance's newly issued decree on sponsorship support, the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) Code of Practice, and the Mexico City Principles for Voluntary Codes of Business Ethics in the Biopharmaceutical Sector.

Pharmaceutical companies that are not IPMG members fall outside the scope of this Code. However, such companies—as well as other organizations involved in marketing healthcare products or services—are encouraged to adhere to ethical promotion standards similar to those outlined in this Code.
